Chapter 16 — The Rack: Many Boxes Into One

Step 2: Configure shared storage (NFS)

16.1 · bash
# If you have a second disk (/dev/sdb), partition and format it:
sudo fdisk /dev/sdb  # create a single partition
sudo mkfs.ext4 /dev/sdb1
sudo mkdir -p /srv/lab/shared
sudo mount /dev/sdb1 /srv/lab/shared
sudo chown -R nobody:nogroup /srv/lab/shared
# Edit /etc/fstab to make it permanent:
echo "/dev/sdb1 /srv/lab/shared ext4 defaults 0 0" | sudo tee -a /etc/fstab
16.2 · bash
sudo apt-get install nfs-kernel-server
# Edit /etc/exports:
echo "/srv/lab/shared 192.168.1.0/24(rw,sync,no_subtree_check,no_root_squash)" | sudo tee -a /etc/exports
sudo exportfs -a
sudo systemctl restart nfs-kernel-server

Step 3: Create the cluster

# SSH to node 1 or use the Proxmox shell
sudo pvecm create clustername --nodeid 1
